The classic 2009 game "Steins;Gate" is getting a full-blown reboot, "Steins;Gate RE:BOOT," which was originally slated for 2025 but later pushed to 2026.
Today (May 7), the official announcement dropped: it's launching on August 20, 2026! Get ready to dive in on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Pre-orders kick off tomorrow, May 8.
"Steins;Gate RE:BOOT" isn't just a simple remaster; it's a complete overhaul of the original "Steins;Gate," which first hit Xbox 360 in 2009. We're talking more than just visual upgrades – almost every asset has been rebuilt from the ground up, plus brand-new story content is being added. This is a full-fledged remake!
Character designs are still handled by huke, but this time around, character outfits and accessories have been tweaked for a more modern vibe. The in-game BGM is also getting a complete re-arrangement by series composer Takeshi Abo. And get this: Akihabara's streetscapes are being meticulously recreated based on period-accurate data, with officials claiming the level of detail is almost photorealistic.
The game also incorporates the next-gen animation tool "E-mote," promising more lively and natural character movements during dialogue. The official team even dropped a character motion demo video, showing just how much more "alive" the characters feel compared to the original.

And for veteran fans, one of the most heartwarming details is that the opening theme song remains the iconic masterpiece "Skyclad Observer" by Kanako Itō.
A brand-new opening animation video has also been released.

The Limited Edition is also packed with goodies, including:
An art book, "VISUAL COLLECTION," featuring all-new illustrations; a "SOUND TRACK DVD-ROM" with the remade BGM; a 15th-anniversary event LIVE footage DVD & Blu-ray; and a special outer box adorned with brand-new cover art by huke.
Beyond the standard Limited Edition, there's also a super-limited "Ultra Limited Edition" being produced. This version includes all the perks of the Limited Edition, plus a high-resolution framed illustration and a complete soundtrack set. This exclusive edition will only be available through "MAGI GET" and Amazon.
Fans are no doubt hyped for this reboot, especially with all the new story content and deluxe extras. We can't wait to see how it all comes together when it officially drops!
