Star Fox Creator Thinks Movie Fox McCloud Is Cooler, Fans Divided on New Nintendo Switch 2 Game Reveal

Nintendo recently dropped the bomb about a new Star Fox game for the Nintendo Switch 2, and series creator Takaya Imamura wasted no time hitting social media to answer fan questions. He even spilled the beans that he personally prefers Fox McCloud's look from "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie."

Imamura, who spent 32 years at Nintendo before leaving in 2021, was instrumental in shaping the Star Fox universe. He helped design the characters in the early 90s, serving as the graphic designer for the original Star Fox and later as art director for Star Fox 64, solidifying the iconic look of the series' characters.

Naturally, with the new Star Fox reveal, character design became a hot topic among players. Many netizens felt that Fox McCloud's movie appearance was more cartoonish and approachable compared to his look in the new Switch 2 game. Imamura himself took to X (formerly Twitter), saying he woke up to a flood of messages and, upon hearing Star Fox was finally back, even wondered, "Is this a dream?"

When asked about his thoughts on the new game's character design, Imamura remarked, "I guess this is what happens without my supervision... something like that." But he quickly added that he thinks the concept itself is good. He then elaborated, "Personally, I prefer the movie version, but this new version has its own merits, and the direction is clear."

Imamura has been vocal about Nintendo adaptations in recent years. He previously shared his concerns about the live-action "The Legend of Zelda" movie, worrying that if Link were to speak, it might break the "Zelda magic" that fans have cherished for so long.
