McDonald's "Happy Meal" isn't just about the food; those special toys and giveaways are pure childhood magic. McDonald's Japan consistently rolls out exciting collaborations with various IPs, bringing fresh fun to their meals and awesome collectibles.
Today (May 8), the official announcement dropped: McDonald's is teaming up with the super popular IP "Chiikawa" and launching a brand-new series of its own "Transforming! McDonald's Robots"! Snagging a meal means snagging a collectible toy, and the official site has already unveiled all the goodies. The event kicks off on May 15!

Starting May 15, get ready for the new Happy Meal "Chiikawa" collaboration toys and the "Transforming! McDonald's Robots" series.
This time around, the "Chiikawa" Happy Meal toys are "3D Pencil Toppers" featuring the characters dressed as McDonald's crew members and managers – and there are 8 different kinds! Each character rocks a unique uniform and role, with McDonald's highlighting how these figures can teach kids about teamwork and different jobs through role-playing. They'll be released in two waves with different designs, so if you've got your eye on a specific one, make sure to time your visit right!

▼ Usagi as McDonald's Crew Member / Momonga as Hospitality Leader / Shisa as McDonald's Manager / Kobuncho as McDonald's Crew Member

And because a buying frenzy is totally expected, McDonald's Japan is rolling out some pretty strict purchase limits this time around.
On the first day of each wave – May 15 and May 29 – if you want to grab a "Chiikawa" Happy Meal, you'll need to snag a "purchase coupon" through the official app first. Once you complete your purchase, the coupon vanishes, so no double-dipping! As for limits, both breakfast and regular hours cap purchases at a maximum of 4 per person. You can only buy them via in-store counters, self-order kiosks, mobile orders, and drive-thrus. McDelivery and other delivery platforms won't be offering them on these two specific days.
However, during the "non-first-day sales periods" from May 16-28 and May 30-June 11, no purchase coupon will be required, though the limit of 4 per customer per transaction still applies. McDelivery will also be back in action during these periods.

Then there's McDonald's own "Transforming! McDonald's Robots" series, also dropping in two waves with eight different robots. Beyond the iconic McNugget Robot and Hamburger Helper, there's also the popular transforming animal series – definitely worth collecting!

It's clear McDonald's Japan has learned a thing or two from last year's "Chiikawa" collab chaos, which had social media in an uproar over buying issues. They're seriously trying to manage the demand this time! Happy Meals in Japan just keep coming, and it seems both kids and adults can't resist. If you're looking to get your hands on these, you might need to find your own workaround, because a buying frenzy is pretty much guaranteed!
