15 Cosplayers Recreate Iconic Studio Ghibli's "Princess Mononoke" Scene, Ashitaka's Kodama Army Steals the Show

Studio Ghibli's animated masterpiece "Princess Mononoke" is a landmark film, and among its most memorable characters are the white, head-wobbling Kodama. Recently, a "Princess Mononoke" cosplay group in Japan has gone viral on X (formerly Twitter), sparking massive buzz.
This epic photoshoot was orchestrated by cosplayer Shiyu (@shiyuneko). The entire team, including the photographer, mobilized over 20 people! Not only did multiple cosplayers come together to recreate an iconic scene, but the army of Kodama behind Ashitaka became an undeniable highlight.

Cosplayer Yuto (@_y_u_t_o_), who portrayed Ashitaka, absolutely nailed the character, from his costume to his posture. Even the injured person he carries on his back was represented by a prop, showcasing incredible attention to detail.

But what truly steals the show are the 14 cosplayers trailing behind him, all clad in white bodysuits and sporting uniquely shaped masks.

Some even went the extra mile, stuffing their midsections to perfectly capture the Kodama's round, plump figures. Seeing everyone so dedicated to embodying these forest spirits creates a scene that's both mysterious and undeniably hilarious.

The group photoshoot earned widespread praise from Japanese netizens. However, the Kodama's presence was so overwhelming that many joked they were completely captivated by the spirits and almost forgot about Ashitaka!

The cosplayers also shared some behind-the-scenes shots. Ashitaka surrounded by a horde of Kodama is a strangely magnificent and amusing sight. You've gotta check out the overwhelming charm of these Kodama!
