When you think of Kosuke Masuda's classic comedy anime "Gag Manga Biyori," your mind probably conjures up hilarious, nonsensical segments like "Journey to the West," "The End of the World," or "Detective Usami."
Among its many unforgettable characters, the enigmatic Kumakichi definitely stands out. He always appears in suspicious outfits, only to be instantly seen through by Usami.
Recently, at the Nipponbashi Street Festa 2026 in Osaka, cosplayer Kowarai (@kowarai1025) brought Kumakichi to life with an incredible recreation. Teaming up with a partner playing the Dog Police, they perfectly reenacted the legendary meme scene where Kumakichi, clad in a Nyami swimsuit, gets arrested.
From the handcuffs on his wrists to being tied up with ropes, every detail of the "caught red-handed" arrest was spot-on. The sheer absurdity and comedic timing had many attendees snapping photos.
After the photos of Kumakichi's arrest went viral, many netizens were hit with a wave of nostalgia, commenting, "I can't believe I'm seeing this in the Reiwa era!" and "Someone actually cosplayed Kumakichi!" It definitely added a hilarious, throwback highlight to this year's event.
