Sumire Uesaka, the powerhouse voice behind characters like Alisa Mikhailovna Kujou from "Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian" and Agnes Digital from "Uma Musume Pretty Derby," recently hit the stage for the premiere event of the Japanese animated film, "Mobile Police Patlabor EZY" Chapter 1.
On stage, she playfully declared her "mental age" to be a cool 52, getting all nostalgic about the new "Patlabor" anime: "It really feels like our youth has come back!"
With "Mobile Police Patlabor EZY" dropping on May 15th, Uesaka was stoked, exclaiming, "So many people have already told me they rushed to see it on opening day!" She then quipped that many of her fans are from the "original 'Patlabor' live-broadcast generation," which is why she's always considered herself 52 (lol). She got a bit emotional again, reiterating, "It truly feels like our youth has returned!" and expressed her absolute joy at seeing a new "Patlabor" installment after such a long hiatus.
Interestingly, Uesaka herself wasn't at the previous day's premiere stage event, but the buzz there was all about how "instead of seeing Towa Kuga with a gun, we'd rather see Ms. Uesaka with one!"
So, at this event, the host straight-up handed Uesaka a toy gun. Though initially surprised, she quickly shot back, "Actually, I'm pretty used to handling these!" She then struck a series of practiced poses, sending the crowd into fits of laughter.
It's no surprise that Uesaka, affectionately dubbed "Commissar" by her fans, totally gets what people want to hear and see. She even threw down in a special match at the "GRAND PRINCESS '26" Japanese women's pro-wrestling event! Clearly, Uesaka isn't just crushing it as a voice actress; she's active across the board!
"Mobile Police Patlabor EZY" plunges the new Second Unit into their biggest crisis yet. The project was first announced way back in 2017, with a prototype video dropping in 2022. Then, in September 2024, the "2026 Project Start" was officially declared, marking it as the latest anime installment in the beloved series.
The entire series will be released in three chapters:
File 1 (Chapter 1: Episodes 1-3) premiered on May 15th.
File 2 (Chapter 2: Episodes 4-6) is slated for an August 14th release.
File 3 (Chapter 3: Episodes 7-8) is scheduled to drop in March 2027.
