Fans of manga maestro Hitoshi Iwaaki, best known for his groundbreaking work "Parasyte," were thrilled earlier this year when his acclaimed series "Historie" was announced for a TV anime adaptation.
Today (May 25), the official word dropped: the "Historie" anime is set to premiere in January 2027! Alongside the release date, fans were treated to the first promotional video, a second teaser visual, and a stacked voice cast lineup. Animation production will be handled by LIDENFILMS.
When you hear "Hitoshi Iwaaki," "Parasyte" is probably the first thing that comes to mind, often leading people to label him a horror mangaka. But Iwaaki's repertoire is far more diverse. "Historie," set against the backdrop of Alexander the Great's Macedonian Empire, is a prime example. Serialized in Kodansha's "Monthly Afternoon" since 2003, the series has already released 12 tankōbon volumes.
The story plunges readers into the BCE era, chronicling the tumultuous life of Eumenes, the man who would eventually become Alexander the Great's secretary. Eumenes, originally of Scythian descent, knows nothing of his true heritage. He is raised in the city-state of Cardia by Greek adoptive parents, receiving a full Hellenic education. However, his world shatters when his adoptive father is murdered, revealing his real origins. Soon after, he is condemned to slavery, embarking on a journey fraught with upheaval and trials.
Beyond confirming the January 2027 premiere, the main voice cast for the series has also been officially revealed:
Eumenes: Nobunaga Shimazaki
Hieronymus (Eumenes' adoptive brother): Ryota Suzuki
Hieronymus (Eumenes' adoptive father): Kazuya Ichijō
Teisias (Eumenes' adoptive mother): Yuko Kaida
Charon / Melanthios: Wataru Takagi
Hegelochus: Satoshi Tsuruoka
Telecles: Anri Katsu
Aristotle: Tsuguo Mogami
Perila: Miki Kariya
Nicocleus: Seiyu Fujiwara
Tolmidas: Junya Enoki
Given the sheer scope and world-building of "Historie," expectations are high for LIDENFILMS to deliver an outstanding adaptation. Fans of the manga should definitely keep an eye out for more updates from the official channels!
