Ever notice how a single manga panel can mean totally different things depending on your cultural background?
That's exactly what happened recently when a Korean netizen stumbled upon a scene from the baseball manga "Oblivion Battery." What was meant to be a super intense pre-game moment got hilariously misinterpreted as a 'sexy pose showdown,' sending both Korean and Japanese netizens into a frenzy on X! It all kicked off when Korean netizen "쓰(@namJammin)" posted, admitting they were completely baffled by the image. With zero baseball knowledge, they genuinely thought the characters were trying to 'seduce' the opposing team with alluring poses before the game even started!
The post blew up, and Japanese netizens quickly jumped in to clarify. Turns out, the manga scene is actually a classic Koshien-style pre-game ritual, super common in Japanese high school baseball.
To clear things up for the uninitiated, some helpful users even shared actual videos. Before the first pitch, both teams line up on opposite sides of the field. Some players get into a low, coiled, ready-to-pounce stance. Then, when the whistle blasts, they all sprint towards home plate, line up, doff their caps, bow to the umpire, and finally head to their positions to kick off the game.
Naturally, the comments section had a field day with the misunderstanding. One netizen hilariously quipped that teams should get 'artistic points' for better seductive poses, giving them an edge in the game! Another joked that even seasoned baseball players might not fully grasp the visual, so calling it a 'sexy pose showdown' is totally valid.
Honestly, if you're not clued into baseball, it's totally understandable how you could misinterpret that manga panel. I mean, characters hunched low, lined up with an intense vibe... if you don't know it's a pre-game ritual, your mind could definitely wander to some wild places, right?
