Recently on X in Japan, a dad known as SADAKIYO完全体 (@SADAKIYO202510) dropped a heartwarming manga, chronicling his incredible journey to help his child fight against the threat of blindness.
He recounted that when his child was two, he noticed some unusual vision issues. A visit to the doctor delivered a heartbreaking diagnosis: the situation was grim, and the child might face complete blindness within a few years.
Devastated, the anxious dad asked the doctor if he should limit his child's reading or screen time. But the doctor's response was totally unexpected: while the child could still see, they should actively encourage him to read, explore, and experience as much of the world as possible.
This advice became the family's guiding star. To etch as many memories as possible before potential vision loss, the dad decided to use Nintendo's "Animal Crossing" as their bridge. Every day, he'd play alongside his child, catching bugs and slowly, word by word, learning new vocabulary within the game.
Simultaneously, the dad dove deep into self-studying ophthalmology, researching conditions like esotropia, accommodative insufficiency, and convergence insufficiency, all to better understand his child's struggles.
This unwavering, gentle dedication eventually led to a breakthrough. With continuous regular check-ups and treatment, the child's single-eye vision gradually recovered, to the point where they can now attend a mainstream school.

After the post went viral, one netizen shared their own experience, recalling how their vision was almost zero in kindergarten but slowly recovered over five to six years. Though childhood left them with feelings of inferiority, a turning point in college helped them change their outlook on life.
Understanding how difficult and often serendipitous the process of psychological recovery can be, the netizen urged the dad to continue monitoring his child's mental well-being.

Another user, born with monocular blindness, admitted to giving up on getting a driver's license due to field of vision issues. However, they noted that with today's increasingly convenient society, having sight in just one eye is generally enough to live a normal life, just like anyone else.

For this family, the child's ability to see the world again isn't just a medical miracle; it's the precious culmination of countless everyday moments spent together.
The dad also gave a special shout-out to Nintendo. Those hours spent catching bugs and slowly making sense of the game world? They were, perhaps, the gentle strength that kept the entire family moving forward during their most anxious days!
