Since its launch in October 2024, the "Ultraman Card Game" has seen numerous booster packs hit shelves, quickly becoming a fan favorite in the competitive trading card game scene.
However, on June 9, the official website dropped some unexpected news: the Simplified Chinese version of the game, distributed in mainland China, will be suspended. The reason? Persistent copyright issues surrounding earlier Ultraman series in the region.
The official announcement stated: "Due to various considerations, the release of Simplified Chinese products will be suspended after Booster Pack Vol. 8: The Moment of Overlapping Bonds, originally scheduled for July 10, 2026."
The team also offered a heartfelt apology to players: "We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to players who have been eagerly anticipating these products."
According to the official explanation from China, the halt is due to "copyright issues with early Ultraman series in mainland China, coupled with increasingly stringent intellectual property management." This led to the decision to suspend all future Simplified Chinese product releases.
It's worth noting that the Ultraman Card Game made history as the first TCG to support four languages, launching in 15 countries and regions worldwide and attracting players globally. In fact, the "ULTRA LEAGUE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP" held this past May saw a player from China clinch the top spot. The game's popularity in China, especially among younger players, has been nothing short of explosive.
Given its soaring popularity, this sudden announcement of the Simplified Chinese version's suspension has left many Chinese players reeling. As for whether there's a chance for future releases to resume, official channels have yet to provide any further updates.
