Get ready, GL fans! Manga artist Sumiko Arai's hit series, The Guy I'm Interested In Isn't a Guy (気になってる人が男じゃなかった), is officially getting an anime! The news first broke last February with the release of its third volume, sending fans into a frenzy.
The big reveal just dropped at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles: The TV anime adaptation is officially hitting screens in January 2027! Alongside the premiere date, fans got a sneak peek with a brand-new teaser visual, a killer teaser PV, and the full rundown on the main voice cast and production crew.
So, what's "The Guy I'm Interested In Isn't a Guy" all about? It's a heartwarming coming-of-age tale steeped in music and the sweet, awkward emotions of high school romance. Our protagonist, Aya Osawa, is totally smitten with the super cool "big brother" who works at her local record store. But plot twist! She later discovers her crush is actually Mizuki Koga, her quiet, unassuming female classmate! The series kicks off from this hilarious and unexpected revelation, charting the journey of two girls as they bond and grow closer, all thanks to their shared passion for tunes.
Animation duties are being handled by the acclaimed CloverWorks studio. Masashi Ishihama is directing, Rino Yamazaki is taking charge of series composition, and Kana Hirayama is on board as character designer.
The main voice cast has also been officially announced:

And that's not all! The teaser PV also gave us our very first look at Mizuki and Aya in animated action. But the real mic drop? The anime's opening theme song will be none other than Nirvana's iconic track, "Breed"! This is a huge deal, as it's the first time a Nirvana song has ever been officially licensed for a Japanese visual production. Talk about a killer soundtrack!
