The highly anticipated anime adaptation of the popular manga "The Guy I'm Interested In Isn't a Guy" (Kini Natteru Hito ga Otoko Janakatta) has officially announced its premiere for January 2027. Fans were initially pretty worried about the anime's heavy reliance on classic rock, fearing major song copyright issues that might compromise the series' authentic vibe. But hold up! A brand-new special project from the official team just dropped, completely squashing those fears and delivering a massive surprise.

The official team went all out, snagging an exclusive interview with none other than legendary Nirvana drummer and current Foo Fighters frontman, Dave Grohl! He confirmed that the iconic track "Breed" will serve as the anime's opening theme. "Breed," a staple from Nirvana's 1991 album "Nevermind," was originally performed as "Imodium" and quickly became one of the band's most explosive live anthems.
When asked about the song choice, Dave Grohl exclaimed, "I heard this thing was getting turned into an anime, and I was like, 'Hell yeah!'"
He also reminisced about the last time he shared the stage with his Nirvana bandmates at a 2025 charity concert for the Los Angeles wildfires, where they also kicked things off with "Breed."
"Playing 'Breed' live has always been my favorite way to open a show," Grohl explained. "We were thinking about what song to open with, and that song starts with a guitar, then the drums come in, then the bass, and before the A section, it's just this massive sound. I thought it was the perfect way to kick off this anime."
After checking out manga creator Sumiko Arai's secret playlist curated for the anime, Dave couldn't stop raving about her impeccable taste, even surprised to find Foo Fighters tracks in there! He emotionally noted that if frontman Kurt Cobain were still alive, he would absolutely adore this series, as the anime perfectly captures an aesthetic and vibe that resonates deeply with their music. This interview totally crushed all those copyright worries, giving fans a huge shot of confidence.
