Fans of Reki Kawahara's hit light novel series "Sword Art Online" have been buzzing since April, when a "completely new original theatrical film" was announced – a project first teased four years ago as part of the anime's 10th-anniversary celebration.
Today (July 7), the wait is finally over! The official title for the brand-new original movie has been revealed: "Sword Art Online -Integral Domain-," slated to hit the big screen in 2028. Alongside the exciting announcement, a stunning teaser visual, a special report video, and details on the main production team have also dropped.

This isn't the first time we've heard whispers of this film. Production was initially announced way back in 2022 during the "Sword Art Online -FULL DIVE Continue-" 10th-anniversary event. Then, on April 29th this year, a segment featuring virtual idol Yuna's "Yuna First Live" during the "Ordinal Scale" event dropped another tantalizing hint, promising more news in July.

Get ready for an all-new original story that picks up right after the events of the "Alicization" arc! Shingo Adachi is stepping into the director's chair, with Yumiko Yamamoto handling character design. Animation duties are a joint effort between A-1 Pictures and Psyde Kick Studio, and ANIMEC is on distribution. And don't worry, fan-favorite voice actors Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Haruka Tomatsu are back as Kirito and Asuna, respectively.

With the official title finally out in the open, anticipation is through the roof for this long-awaited film. More details on the release schedule and production are expected in the future, and fans can't wait to dive into this brand-new chapter following "Alicization."
