Located on the sixth floor of Shibuya PARCO, the Pokémon Center Shibuya is a pilgrimage site for countless Pokémon fans, drawing crowds and enthusiasts from all corners of the globe every single day.
But today, the Shibuya store's iconic centerpiece—the life-sized Mewtwo display—mysteriously vanished! Even the official Pokémon news account, "Pokémon Times," posted, "Huh? Went to Pokémon Center Shibuya, and Mewtwo's gone! What happened?" sparking a frenzy of online discussion.
Since its grand opening in 2019, the Pokémon Center Shibuya has proudly featured a life-sized Mewtwo at its entrance. This isn't just any statue; it's an animatronic marvel that moves, complemented by a dynamic LED screen, lighting, and sound effects, creating an incredibly immersive and impactful experience. It quickly became a must-visit photo op in Shibuya, drawing in countless Pokémon fans and tourists alike.
The news immediately sent the internet into a frenzy, with fans speculating wildly: "Did Shibuya's Mewtwo escape...? Like in 'Mewtwo Strikes Back'?!" and "Team Rocket might have snatched him!"
Of course, the official channels definitely know what's up – this is almost certainly a clever promotional stunt for an upcoming event.
And it's not just the physical display that vanished; Mewtwo also disappeared simultaneously from PokéStops in "Pokémon GO"!
Coincidentally, "Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Global," starring Mewtwo and Zeraora, is set to kick off from July 11-12, 2026. What's more, Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y are making their "Pokémon GO" debut! It's hard not to connect the dots to this massive event.
This move definitely shows the official team knows how to have fun with their promotions. What's next for this vanished life-sized Mewtwo? We'll just have to wait and see how this unfolds!
