Showa Diva Akina Nakamori Confesses Her Love for Kenshi Yonezu on TV: 'Just Hearing His Voice Makes Me Happy!'

Debuting in 1982 and racking up countless smash hits like "Shōjo A" and "DESIRE -Jōnetsu-," Akina Nakamori stands as one of the most iconic Japanese singers of the 1980s. After a hiatus, the 62-year-old star announced her return for her 40th anniversary in 2022 and has recently graced both TV screens and stages once more.

On the July 12 broadcast of TV Asahi's music show "EIGHT-JAM," Akina Nakamori appeared as a guest, sharing her current music obsessions. She openly admitted to being a huge fan of singer-songwriter Kenshi Yonezu, declaring, "Just hearing his voice makes me feel so happy."

When asked by staff if music had been a constant companion during her multi-year hiatus before her recent comeback, Nakamori chuckled, "Lately, I'm absolutely obsessed with Kenshi Yonezu. I listen to his songs all the time when I'm traveling in the car."

As for her favorite track, Nakamori found it impossible to pick just one. She explained:

"I really can't choose. Just hearing Mr. Yonezu's voice makes me feel so happy, so I love every single one of his songs. From his albums to all his other works, I pretty much adore them all."

Nakamori also touched on the challenges of her comeback, admitting that performing in large-scale shows isn't easy. She often feels like she "survived" after a performance. Despite this, the recently-turned-62-year-old just held her "AKINA NAKAMORI LIVE TOUR 2026" in July, which is truly remarkable.

Hearing about Akina Nakamori's deep affection for Kenshi Yonezu's music and voice, who knows? Maybe a collaboration between these two legends could be on the horizon! We can only hope!
