Shueisha's "Weekly Shonen Jump" Issue #33 hit shelves on July 13, 2026, and it wasn't just another manga drop. Thanks to a special bonus "ONE PIECE Card Game" exclusive Luffy card, the issue quickly sold out across Japan, sparking a resale frenzy and turning a weekly magazine release into an unprecedented collector's chaos.

This issue celebrates the 29th anniversary of "ONE PIECE" with that coveted Luffy card. Anticipating high demand, the publisher had already printed an extra 500,000 copies—a massive bump from their usual run. Plus, subscribers to digital platforms "Shonen Jump+" and "Zebrack" were offered a special service to apply for the card. By July 9, official figures showed over 68,000 applications, totaling more than 2.14 million cards requested.
But even with the massive reprint, supply clearly couldn't keep up with demand. Many bookstores reported their pre-order allocations were completely gone a week before release, with some TSUTAYA locations even resorting to lottery sales. On release day, July 13, queues formed outside stores before opening hours. Social media was flooded with desperate fans lamenting, "No Jump at the station convenience store," "First time in 45 years I might not get a copy," and "Thought I'd be safe going in the morning!"
Meanwhile, secondary marketplaces were swamped with listings far above the retail price on release day. Some cards even reportedly sold for around 10,000 JPY (approximately $65 USD), fueling fan outrage over scalpers exacerbating the scarcity.
