Nintendo is reportedly evaluating the launch of an upgraded Switch 2 OLED model. According to ZDnet, citing industry sources, this new version could feature a 1080p OLED screen supplied by Samsung, offered as a premium alternative to the current Switch 2's LCD panel. However, these plans are still in flux, primarily due to the higher manufacturing costs of OLED panels. Should semiconductor and electronic component prices continue to rise, the final retail price might need to be passed on to consumers.

The report suggests that if Nintendo greenlights the Switch 2 OLED, development could commence by the end of this year, with mass production potentially starting in late 2027 or 2028. This timeline aligns with the release pattern of the original Switch's OLED model, which debuted approximately four years after the console's initial launch. Notably, some players had initially hoped for the Switch 2 to launch with an OLED screen, but Nintendo previously stated it opted for LCD to keep the price point accessible.
Currently, there is no news regarding a Switch 2 Lite. Meanwhile, Nintendo has begun redesigning the European versions of the Switch 2 and its controllers to comply with new EU regulations, incorporating user-replaceable batteries. The original Switch is also set to be phased out of the European market by mid-February next year. The report also speculates that the Switch 2 might receive minor screen improvements to mitigate ghosting issues, though no official announcement has been made by Nintendo.
