Known for its quirky and amusing social media posts, the official X account for the manga Frieren: Beyond Journey's End recently dropped a baffling image on fans. It showed a Frieren doll standing alone in the ruins of Raccoon City, the setting for Resident Evil 9.
This was followed by a series of official back-and-forth posts with the Resident Evil account, sparking massive buzz and leaving fans wondering if a crossover could be in the cards.
The official Frieren: Beyond Journey's End X account is well-known for its playful, pun-filled posts, often twisting the series' title into humorous "Frieren of [something]" variations, always with a mischievous twist.
After dropping the image of Frieren in Raccoon City, netizens quickly chimed in with comments like: "Lived too long, ended up in Raccoon City, huh..." and "Is there anything they *can't* meme now? (lol)."
Even better, the official Resident Evil X account quoted the post, replying: "Miss Frieren, this is the latest item box!" The "item box" they're referring to is, of course, the familiar, large storage containers that Resident Evil players know and love.
It was clear both accounts were having a blast with a fun meme, and it felt like just the beginning.
Soon after, the Frieren: Beyond Journey's End X account posted what was *inside* the item box. Naturally, it was another screenshot from the Resident Evil series, captioned with "A mountain of magic books." Looks like Frieren's favorite magic books are safe and sound in there... right? XD
Not long after, the Resident Evil X account retweeted the post, showing Frieren getting "eaten" by the Resident Evil item box, just like a classic mimic chest. This hilarious cross-franchise meme instantly blew up online.
While this isn't an official collaboration, both franchises are currently featured at Universal Studios Japan (USJ) events, leading many fans to hope for a genuine partnership in the future.
Fans were hyped about the official interaction, commenting: "Is an official collab coming?!", "This interaction is legendary!", and "Never thought both official accounts would be this playful (lol)." Whether this unexpected exchange between official accounts will have further developments remains to be seen, but netizens are definitely looking forward to it.
