Marvel Studios has officially announced the first cast member for its long-awaited MCU "X-Men" reboot film. Australian actress Samara Weaving, who rose to prominence starring in the "Ready or Not" franchise, will portray the mutant Emma Frost, a character famously known as the "White Queen."
Weaving's career has largely been built on low-budget thrillers and horror films, with notable appearances in "The Babysitter" series and "Scream VI." Five years ago, Weaving attempted to break into the blockbuster scene with her role as Scarlett in "Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins." However, that film suffered from dismal box office performance and critical reception, with no sequel ever materializing. Now, Weaving is looking to Marvel for a significant career breakthrough.

The new "X-Men" film will be directed by Jake Schreier, who is also helming "Thunderbolts* (also referred to as The New Avengers)." The screenwriting team includes Joanna Calo, who previously collaborated with Schreier on the first season of the Netflix series "Beef," and Lee Sung Jin, the creator of "Beef." Calo had also previously penned a draft script for "Thunderbolts*" at Schreier's request.
