Marvel Cinematic Universe’s latest tentpole, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," launched in North America on July 31, 2026. However, the film did not secure IMAX screens during its opening week, as Christopher Nolan’s "The Odyssey" held exclusive rights to the format.

IMAX Corporation has now made a surprise announcement: "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" will debut in select North American digital IMAX theaters starting August 6, 2026. This move will see it share screening slots with Nolan’s critically acclaimed "The Odyssey," which continues its successful run. "The Odyssey" will maintain its exclusive engagement in 41 global IMAX 70mm film venues.
This new arrangement follows "Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s" robust opening performance in Asian IMAX markets. The film collectively grossed $23 million across China, Japan, and South Korea. China’s IMAX box office alone reached $19 million, marking the highest IMAX opening for a "Spider-Man" film in the region and contributing 16% to its overall opening weekend gross. South Korea set a new local IMAX opening record with $2.4 million, while Japan, despite sharing screens with other features, pulled in $2.2 million, accounting for 18% of its domestic opening revenue.
IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond noted that the "Spider-Man" franchise has amassed $365 million in IMAX box office to date, with "Brand New Day’s" Asian performance elevating the brand to new heights. The company anticipates that the North American IMAX debut will attract new audiences and encourage repeat viewings from dedicated fans.
