Andrew Garfield, star of "The Amazing Spider-Man" series, was recently asked again about his willingness to return for "The Amazing Spider-Man 3." While he didn't make a direct commitment, he confessed he would consider putting the suit back on, but only if the new project is strange enough to break the existing mold.
In an interview with The Playlist, Garfield stated, "I don't know, I really don't know. It would have to be very, very weird. It would have to be very strange, and it would have to be a real break from the mold, and almost—I wouldn't say boring, but I would want it to be something completely unexpected, a type of Spider-Man that audiences have never seen before, that feels very off the beaten path."
As for a specific format, he proposed an idea that departs from traditional superhero films: "Maybe it could be a road movie."
Garfield's tenure as Spider-Man concluded after 2014's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," after which Sony partnered with Marvel Studios to reboot the series with Tom Holland taking over the role.
However, his appearance in "Spider-Man: No Way Home" alongside Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland not only earned him renewed acclaim from audiences but also reignited calls for "The Amazing Spider-Man 3."
Currently, Sony has not announced any related plans, and Holland's version of Spider-Man continues to be developed. Even without an official confirmation of his return, Garfield's conditions indicate that if he were to play Peter Parker again, he wants the project to be more than a continuation of the old series, instead aiming to completely change the genre and narrative direction of Spider-Man films.
