"Marvel's Wolverine," set to launch on PS5 on September 15, 2026, will be fully playable from its physical disc at release, Insomniac Games has clarified. This means the game will not require a full download to activate, unlike some titles that only include a disc in the box.

Senior Project Director Jess Reiner-Reed stated that "Marvel's Wolverine" will be available in both digital and physical editions, and when players purchase the disc, the game will be fully playable directly from it. She added that the team still encourages players to download the day-one patch, as polishing and bug fixes will continue right up to release.
Sony previously announced it would cease disc production for new PlayStation titles starting January 2028, a move that sparked concerns among players regarding the used game market, game preservation, and digital pricing control. This makes "Marvel's Wolverine" potentially one of the last first-party PlayStation blockbusters truly playable entirely from a disc.
In other news, Sony also unveiled limited-edition PS5 accessories for "Marvel's Wolverine." A limited "Battle Yellow" PS5 Digital Edition bundle, priced at $649.99, will include a Wolverine-themed yellow console and a matching DualSense controller. The yellow and "Adamantium" DualSense controllers will also be sold separately, with console covers available for both PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro models.

The design was crafted by comic artist Jock, who stated he aimed to showcase Wolverine's fiercest side, blending hand-drawn ink line energy with cutting-edge hardware.
