Insomniac's "Marvel's Wolverine" Won't Be an Origin Story, Adamantium Mystery to Remain Unsolved

"Marvel's Wolverine" will follow Insomniac Games' narrative strategy from the "Marvel's Spider-Man" series, choosing not to tell a complete origin story for the hero or fully detail how Logan acquired his Adamantium skeleton.

Creative Director Marcus Smith stated at a preview event that in their story, Logan's bones are already infused with Adamantium. He added that Logan doesn't remember how or why it happened, and the game won't delve deeply into it because it's not an origin story.

Foreign media playtests indicated that the game's opening still features a brief flashback, showing Logan in a near-feral state in a forest, where he encounters Mister Sinister (Nathaniel Essex), a character familiar to X-Men fans. However, this scene is fleeting, quickly transitioning to the main action years later, signaling that the game does not intend to gradually re-enact Wolverine's origin.

The reports also noted that characters in the game will occasionally reference past events and conflicts, imbuing the world with a sense of history. Players familiar with the comics or other adaptations might piece together more clues, while newcomers can simply view these details as enriching character background. This mirrors how "Marvel's Spider-Man" handled Peter Parker, acknowledging the character's established past without re-enacting the radioactive spider bite that started it all.

For Insomniac, this approach allows players to dive directly into the action and the core of the character from the outset, without a lengthy setup. Whether the protagonist is Peter Parker or James Howlett, the emphasis is on letting players immediately experience the thrill of being a superhero.
