Post Malone Unleashes $2 Million "The One Ring" in Live "Magic: The Gathering" Game: World's Only Card Unsealed for Battle, Shocks Players

American musician Post Malone has once again sent shockwaves through the "Magic: The Gathering" community and collector circles.

Three years after acquiring the world's only serialized 001/001 "The One Ring" card for a staggering $2 million, he didn't keep it perpetually sealed in a graded case. Instead, Malone brought this incredibly rare card, arguably the most coveted in gaming history, onto the battlefield during a match on The Command Zone's "Game Knights" show.

As other players gasped in disbelief, Post Malone simply stated, "I'm going to take it out of this obnoxious brick; that would ruin game night."

High-value collectible cards are typically preserved in protective grading slabs to maintain their condition. However, Malone chose to return his prized possession to its intended purpose, allowing the astonishingly valuable card to actively participate in gameplay.

"The One Ring" card originated from the 2023 "The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth" set. Wizards of the Coast printed only one serialized 001/001 version to mirror the singular nature of the iconic Ring from J.R.R. Tolkien's legendary story. Canadian collector Brook Trafton was the one who pulled the card, which was subsequently certified as Mint 9 by PSA. Post Malone officially purchased it from Trafton in August 2023.

Commenting on the transaction at the time, Trafton shared, "When I found 'The One Ring,' the first person who came to mind was Post Malone. I've played 'Magic: The Gathering' since I was a kid, and of course, it would be amazing to keep this card. But for someone like me, being able to sell it is life-changing, and I really just hope it goes to someone who will cherish it as much as I do."

While "Magic: The Gathering" released another "The Hobbit" series this year, which includes a new version of "The One Ring" design, Post Malone's 001/001 remains the sole existing collectible of its kind. By not only collecting but actively using "The One Ring," Malone has once again made this legendary card a central focus of the community.
