The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered Set for September 29 Free Upgrade, Boasting Enhanced Combat, Visuals, and Cross-Platform Mod Support

CD Projekt Red closed out Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 with the reveal of "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered," announcing the game's official launch on September 29, 2026. Existing players on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S will receive a free upgrade.

Beyond significant visual enhancements, this remaster will completely overhaul the game's systems. This includes adjustments to combat, character movement, and exploration, alongside improved mount controls and monster behavior. The update also reworks the skill tree, introduces armor transmog, new finishing moves, an expanded photo mode, and the highly anticipated cross-platform mod support.

On the technical graphics front, the PC version will support Nvidia DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR 4, Intel XeSS 2.0, path tracing, and ray reconstruction, even introducing ray-traced hair effects. The game will also feature improved global illumination, HDR, vegetation shading, and motion blur, with support for PS5 Pro and Xbox Play Anywhere.

While the original Nintendo Switch version won't directly receive the remastered update, an official native Nintendo Switch 2 version will be released, available for free to original game owners. Additionally, the title will make its debut on Battle.net, allowing players to unlock a Geralt-themed cosmetic in "Diablo IV."

Notably, both the existing and remastered versions of "The Witcher 3" will include the first two major expansions for free, serving as a prelude to the third expansion, "Songs of the Past," slated for a 2027 release. As for "The Witcher 4," starring Ciri, it is currently targeting a 2028 launch window.
