"Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to mourn the passing of country music legend Dolly Parton, who died at 80 years old. However, Rowling's long-standing controversial views reignited backlash from some online users, with one commenter directly stating, "You should be dead."

In her tribute, Rowling lauded Parton's Imagination Library, calling it one of the most significant celebrity contributions to children's literacy. She also reminisced about a brief backstage meeting with Parton at a 1990s talk show, admitting she was too nervous to speak, and described Parton as "a unique and irreplaceable person."
However, Parton's long-standing support for the LGBTQ+ community led some netizens to react negatively to Rowling's tribute. One user directly commented, "You should be dead." Rowling later shared a screenshot of the comment, sarcastically noting that if someone publicly wishes death upon another while leaving their real name and school in their profile, blocking them wouldn't be very meaningful.

Another user criticized Rowling, asserting she had nothing in common with Parton. Rowling humorously retorted by referencing the lyrics of Parton's hit song "Jolene," quipping that at least neither of them wanted Jolene to take their man.

Following Parton's passing, numerous celebrities, including Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Debbie Harry, Joan Jett, and Miley Cyrus, also shared their tributes.
