The highly anticipated full remake of "Fate/EXTRA", the very first RPG in the "Fate" series, titled "Fate/EXTRA Record", has been on a wild ride of delays since its initial announcement. This past March, Bandai Namco Entertainment even dropped the bombshell that they would cease publishing the title.
But hold on to your hats! Nearly half a year later, it was announced on the 31st that the game is getting a new publisher. Aniplex is now officially taking over publishing duties from the original publisher, Bandai Namco Entertainment. This massive shift includes a complete overhaul of the official website and all social media channels. With Aniplex stepping in, development is back on track, and fans can expect a fresh drop of info this September!

"Fate/EXTRA Record" is a complete, souped-up remake of "Fate/EXTRA," the groundbreaking first RPG in the "Fate" series, which originally hit PSP back in 2010. Get ready to dive into a brand-new Holy Grail War on the moon, where mages and heroic spirits clash within the virtual realm of "SE.RA.PH," all built by the incredible Spiritron Computer "Mooncell Automaton."

Back in March, the game's old official "X" account posted a rather somber message: "Regarding 'Fate/EXTRA Record,' we have decided to cease publishing the title under Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. We sincerely apologize to all players who have been eagerly awaiting its release." Talk about a gut punch!
The previous "X" social media account also announced that a shiny new account would be opened, while the old one is set to be officially retired on September 7th. Out with the old, in with the new!

Fast forward about five months from that initial announcement, and Aniplex officially dropped the news on the 31st: "Regarding the console game 'Fate/EXTRA Record,' we are announcing a publisher transfer, and Aniplex will be responsible for its publication moving forward."
And that's not all! They also announced the grand re-opening of the official "Fate/EXTRA Record" website and "X" account. Aniplex teased that fans can expect a fresh wave of updates and juicy details about the game's progress to hit official channels sometime in September. Get ready!
"Fate/EXTRA Record" was initially aiming for a 2025 release, but then in July 2025, it got pushed back to Spring 2026. But wait, there's more! This past March, a shake-up in the publishing structure led to Bandai Namco Entertainment pulling out, causing yet another agonizing delay for the game.
Kazuya Niinou, the original planner and director for the project, also shared some personal news, announcing his departure from TYPE-MOON studio BB. He explained that he left due to personal reasons and couldn't see the project through to completion as its director, for which he offered a heartfelt apology to the fans. However, he reassured everyone that the game's development is still charging ahead with top-tier production, and he hopes everyone stays hyped for future game content and updates.

So, with Aniplex officially at the helm, "Fate/EXTRA Record" is confirmed to be back in active development! As for when we'll actually get our hands on it, we'll just have to patiently (or impatiently) wait for that sweet, sweet info drop coming in September.
