The road for Fate/EXTRA Record, the full remake of the first-ever Fate series RPG, has been a rocky one, marked by repeated delays. After Bandai Namco Entertainment announced its withdrawal as publisher this past March, Aniplex was confirmed to be taking over publishing duties on August 31.
In a surprise announcement during the September 3rd PlayStation State of Play, the game was confirmed for a January 28, 2027 release. A new trailer and gameplay footage were also revealed, showcasing the title which is set to launch on PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (Steam).

Fate/EXTRA Record is a complete remake of the 2010 PSP title Fate/EXTRA. The story unfolds in SE.RA.PH, a virtual space constructed by the "Mooncell Automaton" supercomputer, heralding a new Holy Grail War between mages and their Servants.

Players take on the role of a protagonist who has lost their memory but has become the Master of a Servant, joining 128 other Masters in a battle for ownership of the one true Holy Grail—the "Holy Grail War."
Compared to the original Fate/EXTRA, the remake will feature a significantly enhanced story, completely updated character art, and deeper strategic gameplay through a new deck-building dramatic command battle system.

A key to victory in the Holy Grail War is uncovering the true identity of enemy Servants. Their real names are tied to their combat styles and weaknesses, making this information crucial. Players must gather clues to gradually reveal the enemy's identity.
Once enough information is gathered, players can explore the "Arena" to qualify for the final showdown. Inside the arena, you'll navigate various traps and mechanisms while battling enemies to strengthen your Servant. After training, you'll command your powered-up Servant in a one-on-one final battle.

The game features a deck-building command battle system where you create a custom deck by combining various commands. There are currently three main types:
Attack Type: Directly attacks the enemy.
Defense Type: Used to block enemy attacks.
Skill Type: Used for buffs and special actions.
Servants consume Action Points (AP) to perform actions in battle. If AP runs out, they can no longer act, so players must assess the situation and issue the most effective commands within their limited options.
Before battle, players can choose one of three Servants to fight with. Each Servant has unique abilities, so understanding their strengths and characteristics is key to gaining an advantage. Additionally, a system called "Soul Projection" can further enhance battle commands, allowing for even more strategic combat.

Furthermore, digital pre-orders will go live on the PS Store starting September 4th. As a pre-order bonus, players will receive an early unlock code for the "Tsukimihara Academy Uniform" My Servant Costume Set.

In addition to the base game, "Limited Edition," "TYPE-MOON Official Mail Order Special Edition," and "TYPE-MOON Official Mail Order Super Special Edition" versions will be available. These bundles include the game, various outfits, an arranged BGM from the original Fate/EXTRA, and a digital soundtrack & artbook.
Each edition comes with different bonuses, so players can choose the one that best suits them.
