PowerA's Super Mario & Yoshi Switch 2 Wireless Controller Drops September 30! Trends on X, Fans Call it "Cute" but Some Worry About No Console Wake-Up Feature

Gaming accessory giant PowerA has announced the upcoming Japanese release of its officially licensed "PowerA Advantage Wireless Controller for Nintendo Switch 2-Mario & Yoshi." This wireless controller features a crisp white body adorned with colorful artwork of Mario and Yoshi on an adventure. It's set to launch on September 30, with an expected retail price of 8,900 JPY, and pre-orders are already open.

The controller's face features Mario riding Yoshi front and center, surrounded by iconic items and stage elements from the Super Mario Bros. series. Green analog sticks and buttons perfectly match Yoshi's signature color, creating a bright and lively gaming vibe.

Feature-wise, both analog sticks boast Hall Effect sensors, utilizing magnetic induction to significantly reduce the chance of stick drift over long-term use. Anti-friction rings around the sticks ensure super smooth operation. The back of the controller also sports two customizable "Advanced Gaming Buttons," allowing players to assign frequently used functions based on their game preferences.

Designed for the Nintendo Switch 2's new communication features, this controller includes a C-button to activate GameChat. It also supports accelerometer and gyroscope sensors for motion controls like aiming, steering, and flying. The built-in rechargeable battery offers up to 30 hours of playtime on a single charge and comes with a generous 3-meter USB-C charging cable. Actual battery life may vary depending on usage.

Beyond the Nintendo Switch 2, the controller is also compatible with the original Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch OLED Model, and Nintendo Switch Lite. However, the GameChat C-button functionality won't work on older console models. Measuring approximately 107×149×60mm and weighing 299 grams, the Japanese domestic version includes a two-year warranty. Before you buy, be aware that this controller does NOT support amiibo read/write, NFC, waking up the Switch 2 console, headphone jack, HD Rumble 2, Joy-Con 2 exclusive games, or the IR Motion Camera. For players who prioritize the awesome Mario & Yoshi design, Hall Effect joysticks, and customizable back buttons, the feature set is pretty solid. But if amiibo or rumble features are a must-have, you'll need to weigh those trade-offs.

Soon after the announcement, the controller started trending on X in Japan. At the time of the screenshot, there were already 243 related posts. Discussions ranged from its looks to its practical use. Many instantly fell in love with the green and white color scheme and the Mario & Yoshi artwork, exclaiming "So cute!" while others thought it would make a perfect birthday gift for gamer friends. However, once players dug into the specs, the lack of a console wake-up feature became a hot topic. Some users pointed out that while the design is great, many third-party controllers don't support waking the console from sleep, which can be a minor inconvenience.
