Eight years after his last feature, "The Incredibles" filmmaker Brad Bird has finally unveiled the first trailer and poster for his new animated detective noir, "Ray Gunn."
Bird directs the film and co-wrote the screenplay with "Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio" co-writer Matthew Robbins. The voice cast includes Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Waits and Bird himself. "Ray Gunn" opens in select North American theaters on December 4 before streaming on Netflix on December 18.

Set in an alternate future as imagined from 1939, the film unfolds in Metropia, a sprawling fictional city where humans and aliens live side by side. Private eye Raymond Gunn becomes entangled in a complicated case involving extraterrestrials, murder and a multimedia superstar named Venus Nova.
Bird previously described "Ray Gunn" as a blend of sci-fi and 1940s detective movies, likening it to "The Maltese Falcon" meeting the space-faring adventures of "Buck Rogers." Visually, the film brings back the retro-futurist aesthetic Bird explored in "The Incredibles" movies.
