Nicolas Cage has remained involved with Marvel projects in recent years, even starring in the live-action series "Spider-Noir." But while discussing the current state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actor admitted that the franchise has increasingly begun to remind him of WWE.

Appearing at FAN EXPO Dallas, Cage said he was a fan of the MCU’s early approach, particularly the way its characters and storylines gradually came together.
“In my opinion, it was really wonderful in the beginning. Some of those early stories were terrific, and the way they wove all the storylines together while exploring the different characters and their backgrounds was extremely well done.”
His perspective began to change, however, as the franchise continued to expand and brought back an increasing number of legacy characters.

“I do say this with love,” Cage continued. “When I see these 50-plus and otherwise intelligent and remarkably gifted thespians putting on these ridiculous outfits and getting ready for the fight — let’s face it, it’s all cutting to the fight — it’s hard for me not to be reminded that the MCU is becoming a well-funded and glorified WWE.”
Cage did not single out any particular project or performer, but his comments quickly drew comparisons to "Avengers: Doomsday." The film will bring back several veteran "X-Men" stars, including Ian McKellen as Magneto, Patrick Stewart as Professor X and James Marsden as Cyclops. Robert Downey Jr. will also return to the MCU as Doctor Doom.
Cage himself has deep ties to Marvel characters. In addition to starring in two "Ghost Rider" movies, he voiced Spider-Man Noir in "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" before playing a live-action version of the character in "Spider-Noir." Prime Video recently canceled the series after one season despite its largely positive reception.
