Illustrator Nagano's Chiikawa became an instant sensation, with its distinctive style winning even more fans following the anime adaptation. This year's theatrical film has pushed the franchise's popularity beyond the core fandom once again.
The franchise recently announced a collaboration with centuries-old Kyoto brewery TAMANOHIKARI Sake Brewing Co., Ltd., featuring a set inspired by Kurimanju. It includes sake, concentrated dashi sauce, and a special dashi-wari cup. Priced at 4,000 yen, the set is now available to preorder from the official online store.
Founded in 1673, TAMANOHIKARI Sake Brewing Co., Ltd. is a sake brewery based in Fushimi, Kyoto. A pioneer in reviving junmai sake, the brewery remains committed to traditional brewing methods using only rice, water, and koji, with a focus on producing high-quality Junmai Ginjo. While carrying on more than 350 years of tradition, it continues to create sake suited to the modern dining table.
This Chiikawa collaboration centers on Kurimanju, the sake-loving character often seen enjoying dashi-wari in the series. The Chiikawa Sake and Dashi-Wari Set lets fans easily recreate his favorite drinking style at home.
So, what exactly is dashi-wari? It is a way of drinking sake by mixing it with broth from dishes such as oden.
