Massive Gundam 50th Anniversary Event "GUNDAM-Con" Hits Makuhari Messe in January 2027, With Mighty Strike Freedom Front and Center

With the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise approaching its 50th anniversary, organizers announced plans in May for its first major celebration event, GUNDAM-Con. Built around the theme of “creating together with fans,” the event will bring in creators who have worked on the Gundam series while offering exhibits and interactive experiences that dive deeper into the franchise.

Organizers have now unveiled the event’s key visual, along with new details on its attractions and attendee gifts. GUNDAM-Con will run from January 9 to January 11, 2027, at Makuhari Messe. Admission requires a paid ticket secured through an advance lottery, with visitors assigned a specific entry time.

GUNDAM-Con will feature appearances by creators involved with the Gundam series, alongside exhibitions and interactive zones designed to immerse visitors in its many worlds.

World championships previously held separately for GUNPLA, card games, video games, and other categories will also come together under one roof. The venue has been significantly expanded from the original plan and will now occupy Halls 1–3 of Makuhari Messe.

Admission is paid and requires advance entry through a lottery, with successful applicants assigned a specific entry time. Second-round applications ran from October 2 to October 12, 2026, with results scheduled for October 20. Third-round applications will open from October 30 through November 8.

Everyone of elementary-school age or older must have an admission ticket. Each ticket-holding parent or guardian aged 18 or older may bring one preschool-aged child free of charge without purchasing an additional ticket.

System usage and ticketing fees will also apply when purchasing tickets.

Adults aged 16 and older: 5,000 yen

Children from elementary-school age through junior high school: 3,000 yen

Preschool-aged children: Free

Each admission ticket includes three attendee gifts, which will be distributed at the venue on the day of the event. Gifts will not be shipped afterward, and replacements will not be issued to visitors who forget to collect them after entering. Individual booths are also expected to offer demos, giveaways, and other bonuses while supplies last.

The three attendee gifts are:

▼ GUNDAM-Con Special Shopper

An original shopping bag featuring the event’s key visual. Measuring W500 × H400 × D150mm, it is large enough to carry merchandise purchased at the venue.

▼ ECOPLA 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam Workshop Kit Ver.

ECOPLA kits are made from recycled plastic, including collected used model runners and waste generated during GUNPLA production.

▼ SD Gundam G Generation ETERNAL Original In-Game Items

The set includes one Premium Gasha Ticket and an exclusive in-game title.

GUNDAM-Con will feature a giant Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam balloon, complete with video and lighting effects for a special on-site presentation.

The “GUNDAM Road to 50th” area will be inspired by “The Boy and Gundam,” the prologue film for the Gundam 50th Anniversary Project. The immersive space will invite visitors to experience their own personal story with Gundam.

The announced attractions span the original Mobile Suit Gundam series, arcade games Mobile Suit Gundam ARSENAL BASE and MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM EXTREME VS. 2 INFINITE BOOST, mobile game SD Gundam G Generation ETERNAL, miniature game GUNDAM ASSEMBLE, and the GUNDAM CARD GAME.

Bandai’s GUNPLA and TAMASHII NATIONS will naturally be part of the lineup as well, and the expected venue-exclusive merchandise could put plenty of fans’ wallets to the test.

Organizers have also teased appearances and panel discussions featuring numerous creators and production staff, along with more new content from across the franchise, all gathered at GUNDAM-Con.
