RJ Mitte, who played Walter White Jr. on "Breaking Bad," died at his home in Brownsville, Texas, on October 12, 2026. He was 34. His representative confirmed to People that Mitte died by suicide, though police stressed that the investigation remains ongoing. An official cause and manner of death will be determined after an autopsy.

According to Brownsville police, officers responded to a call at 12:50 p.m. local time and found Mitte unresponsive when they arrived. He was pronounced dead at 1:32 p.m.
Authorities found no apparent signs of foul play at the scene. In a statement, Mitte’s representatives announced the death of the beloved actor, philanthropist and disability rights advocate with profound sadness while asking the public to respect his family’s privacy.
Mitte, who had cerebral palsy, appeared throughout all five seasons of "Breaking Bad" as Flynn, the son of Bryan Cranston’s Walter White. Drawing on his own experiences, he brought an added sense of authenticity to the role. Beyond acting, Mitte championed disability inclusion, serving as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children's. He was also president of The Mitte Foundation, which supports local charities and arts initiatives.

Following news of his death, Mitte’s "Breaking Bad" costars shared tributes. Dean Norris, who played Hank Schrader, said that although Mitte was not his son on the show, he had always looked out for the then-young actor on set. Norris remembered him as an unbelievably kind young man.
Aaron Paul, who played Jesse Pinkman, said he loved his friend and that Mitte would be deeply missed. He also reminded readers that everyone deserves love and does not have to face difficult times alone.
The local Mitte Cultural District also honored his commitment to the arts, saying his dedication to Brownsville would forever remain part of the community’s story.
