Modeler Builds Pokemon's "Mega Scizor" From Gunpla Parts, Delivering a Brilliant Mecha Makeover

Japanese modeler Popogorilla ( @popolabo55 ) previously caught our attention with two Pokemon creations assembled from Gunpla parts: “HG Mega Gardevoir” and “HG Greninja.”

Now he is back with another custom build, once again dismantling, recombining, and repainting parts from several Gunpla kits to create the fan-favorite Pokemon Mega Scizor. The clever concept and impressive execution have earned the modeler another round of well-deserved praise.

Mega Scizor is a Mega-Evolved Pokemon that made its debut in Pokemon X and Y. After Mega Evolving from Scizor, it gains higher Defense, Special Defense, and Attack, while its pincers become even larger and sharper. In competitive battles, Bullet Punch—boosted by the Technician Ability and Swords Dance—was once a popular choice among many players.

For this project, Popogorilla once again used a wide assortment of leftover Gunpla components, experimenting with different combinations until everything came together. Mega Scizor’s naturally mechanical design provided plenty of room to work with, but finding the right parts—and using careful assembly and paintwork to capture its signature silhouette—still took plenty of ingenuity.

After gathering the necessary components, the model was assembled into its initial form. Even at this stage, it looked more heavily armored than the original Mega Scizor. Its thick mechanical body and massive pincers already gave it the makings of a formidable mecha-inspired design.

Next came the paintwork that would bring the entire build together. Mega Scizor’s signature red served as the foundation, with each individual component painted in matching colors to complete the look.

Once painted, this Mega Scizor looks even bulkier and more mechanical than the original, with a hint of a future Paradox Pokemon thrown in for good measure. The familiar color scheme remains intact, while additional metallic finishes give the build a tougher, reinforced appearance. Its two pairs of giant pincers now resemble heavy cannons, making the final design look even more imposing.

With its slightly humanoid mechanical silhouette, Popogorilla also noted that the build has a distinct Medabots vibe.

Raised into position, the pincers now look like cannons ready to fire off the Steel-type moves Flash Cannon or Steel Beam.

(Scizor can indeed learn both moves, although its low Special Attack means they are not exactly practical choices.)

This marks Popogorilla’s eighth attempt at combining Pokemon designs with Gunpla. From choosing the Pokemon to selecting the right materials, he was once again highly satisfied with the finished result.
