Marvel Comics recently unveiled a particularly wild twist for its new "Venom" comic series at New York Comic Con. “Black Widow” Yelena Belova is set to develop a romantic relationship with the Venom Symbiote, with host Eddie Brock also caught up in the unusual arrangement. Future issues will reveal exactly how this complicated relationship came to be.
"Venom" writer Charles Soule broke the news during a convention panel, explaining that he wanted to bring more romance into the new series and use Venom’s symbiotic nature to explore an unconventional emotional dynamic. Based on what has been revealed so far, however, the romance primarily appears to be between Yelena and Venom. It remains unclear whether Eddie is another romantic partner or simply along for the ride because he shares a body with the Symbiote.

According to details revealed at the panel, "Venom" #4, due in January 2027, will explore the beginning of the relationship. Titled "Love Lies Bleeding," the issue suggests that Yelena crosses paths with Venom after one of her missions goes sideways. How the three will navigate their new dynamic remains to be seen.
The development also comes just as Eddie and Venom reunite. The Symbiote previously bonded with Eddie’s son, Dylan Brock, and Mary Jane Watson, while Eddie became the host of Carnage. Now that Eddie and Venom are together again, they must contend with the fact that Venom apparently already has a girlfriend.
In the new series, Venom claims New York’s Alphabet City as his territory and rechristens it “Venom City,” while mysterious forces plot against him from the shadows. As a highly trained spy, Yelena could be connected to the brewing conflict, though Marvel has yet to reveal any specifics.
Fans have been divided since the news broke. Some are eager to see how the creative team handles a romance between a human and a Symbiote, while others worry that the setup could become overly complicated.

"Venom" #1 arrives October 14, 2026, while the full story behind this unusual relationship will begin to unfold in issue #4 in January 2027.
