"Lanterns" Finale Sparks Fan Fury as Official DC Podcast Host Says Critics "Aren’t Worth Living," Should "Choke on Their Own Tongues"

The first season of the DCU series "Lanterns" has barely wrapped, but its finale is already dividing fans. Now Coy Jandreau, who also hosts an official DC podcast, is facing fresh backlash over inflammatory remarks aimed at online critics during an appearance on the YouTube channel Reel Rejects. Clips from the episode began circulating on X (formerly Twitter) on October 12, 2026, fueling another wave of criticism.

While reviewing the "Lanterns" finale, Reel Rejects co-host Greg Alba praised the series overall and singled out Kyle Chandler’s performance. However, he also argued that the show skipped over much of Hal Jordan’s history as a hero, preventing viewers from getting the full picture of the character’s past. Despite Alba’s largely positive assessment, some commenters accused him of taking money from DC and deliberately defending the studio. Those attacks became a major topic on the podcast’s latest episode.

Jandreau made no effort to hide his contempt for those critics. "They should choke on their own tongues, dude," he said. "Those people aren’t worth living, and we’re already overpopulated." He went on to describe them as people volunteering to become "cannon fodder," a sentiment Alba appeared to endorse.

Jandreau continued attacking the commenters, calling them a "disgrace to carbon" and arguing that some of them should not exist at all.

Explaining why he had muted notifications for social media replies, Jandreau said the internet was filled with so much stupidity that it had made him question whether he would still want to save a stranger’s life. "If somebody’s drowning, am I going to let them die because they might be an idiot?" he asked. "Maybe."

Alba also criticized the commenters for lacking self-awareness, though he stressed that the remarks were not aimed at every viewer. Jandreau added that he was about to leave for his honeymoon and planned to stay offline for the next two weeks to avoid further exposure to the negativity.

Notably, Jandreau also hosts "DC Studios Showcase: The Official Podcast," produced in partnership with HBO Max and DC Studios. Fellow host Frankey Smith previously drew backlash from fans after claiming that Hal Jordan is canonically racist.

Despite repeatedly directing personal attacks at their critics, the two hosts ended the episode by urging viewers to keep their comments civil. They said disagreement was welcome but asked users to show basic courtesy and sound judgment.
