American skateboarding brand Santa Cruz Skateboards has teamed up with the Pokémon TCG for a limited-edition 30th anniversary skateboard deck collection. Celebrating Pokemon’s 30th anniversary, the lineup transforms 30 classic Pokémon cards into full skateboard deck designs. Each deck comes sealed in a custom metallic blue blind bag, so there is no way to know which design is inside before opening it. Priced at 30,800 yen including tax, the decks will be sold in Japan through Murasaki Sports via a limited online lottery. Applications will be accepted from 10:00 p.m. on October 17 through 5:00 p.m. on October 20, with a limit of one entry per person.
Santa Cruz has previously collaborated with major franchises such as Star Wars, including the “Santa Cruz x STAR WARS Collaboration Skateboards” featured here. This time, the brand has gone straight to the Pokémon TCG archives. Each deck preserves the original card artwork while reworking the full composition around the featured Pokemon’s type, Energy type, and card theme. Longtime players may find themselves recognizing each card from the artwork alone, without even seeing its name.
Standard decks feature one randomly selected design from the collection of 30 classic Pokémon cards. Each package also includes an exclusive “Player’s Guide” booklet showcasing the complete lineup. Santa Cruz has also created three special gold glitter-foil variants, each featuring a collage of Pokémon cards from different international editions. Only 500 of each gold design will be produced worldwide. Buyers will have to break open the bag to discover both which classic card design they pulled and whether they scored an ultra-rare gold edition—bringing the familiar thrill of opening a Pokémon card pack to a full-size skateboard deck.
