Ponpindo × STRICT-G's "Mobile Suit Gundam" Katazome Collection Blends a Century of Craftsmanship With Gundam Style

Official Gundam fashion label STRICT-G has built a loyal following through apparel collaborations with major brands from Japan and the US.

Its latest partner is Ponpindo, an Asakusa-based textile brand with more than a century of history. The new "Mobile Suit Gundam" Katazome Collection features amulet pouches, traditional drawstring pouches, and a Haro mini zabuton cushion, combining iconic Gundam imagery with classic Japanese aesthetics. Preorders are now open through Premium Bandai's Japanese website.

Ponpindo traces its roots to the katazome workshop Sarakei, founded in 1867. The brand combines Edo-period stencil-dyeing and kata-sarasa techniques—traditions refined over more than 400 years—with modern design to create handcrafted textile goods for everyday life.

This collection brings the traditional Japanese art of katazome stencil dyeing to Gundam merchandise, transforming Gundam, Char's Zaku II, and Haro into charming heritage-style patterns. Each piece showcases the rich texture of handcrafted fabric alongside the distinctive beauty of traditional Japanese motifs.

The collection includes three product types: the amulet pouch, traditional drawstring pouch, and hand-sewn mini zabuton. The amulet pouches also come packaged in paulownia wood boxes. Whether for a Gundam fan or an admirer of traditional Japanese craftsmanship, these pieces make distinctive gifts.

(Note: An amulet pouch is a small cloth bag traditionally used to carry protective charms, talismans, incense ash, or religious texts. The traditional drawstring pouch dates back to Japan's Edo period and is known for its understated, classic appearance. It was commonly carried by men wearing kimono or attending traditional festivals.)
