Classic racing anime Future GPX Cyber Formula is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year with a major comeback. The 1996 TV series compilation Future GPX Cyber Formula EARLYDAYS RENEWAL is getting an HD digital restoration and will be re-edited as a new MOVIE EDITION, paired with an all-new animated short.
The official trailer debuted on October 19, weaving footage from the original compilation together with brand-new animation. The double feature opens in Japanese theaters on February 19, 2027.
Originally released in 1996, the two-part TV series compilation Future GPX Cyber Formula EARLYDAYS RENEWAL will receive a full HD digital restoration. Under the supervision of series director Mitsuo Fukuda, the footage has been re-edited into the MOVIE EDITION, bringing the classic back with upgraded visuals built for the big screen.
The all-new short created for the franchise’s 35th anniversary is titled Future GPX Cyber Formula ASURADA. Running approximately six minutes, it serves as the official sequel to the fourth OVA series, 1998’s Future GPX Cyber Formula SIN, and follows a brand-new year of Cyber Formula racing. Despite its compact runtime, the short packs an entire new chapter into six tightly paced minutes, offering a high-density snapshot of what is happening in this world right now.
Together, the two productions will form the 35th anniversary theatrical release Future GPX Cyber Formula EARLYDAYS RENEWAL MOVIE EDITION & ASURADA.
Alongside the return of the familiar voice cast, major highlights include a brand-new racing machine designed by Shoji Kawamori and striking visuals created entirely with hand-drawn animation.
