PS5 "Marvel's Spider-Man 2" Digital Deluxe Edition's Ten Suit Designs Have Impressive Origins! One Renowned Designer Even Visited Taiwan

In just one month, "Marvel's Spider-Man 2," the third Marvel Comics-adapted action-adventure game in the "Marvel's Spider-Man" series, developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, will be exclusively released on PlayStation 5. Prior to this, Sony not only unveiled multiple promotional videos and visual posters, but for the "Digital Deluxe Edition," they also invited numerous art designers active in comics, video games, and film to create an additional 10 original suit designs.

Because the invited artists are all highly distinguished, and friends who are well-versed in comics, movies, and video games have surely heard their names, this article will not only release multiple concept art images of the designed suits one by one but also provide a brief introduction to each artist.

"Miles" Encoded Suit By EKris Anka

EKris Anka, or we can drop the 'E' and call him Kris Anka. Known for his expertise in depicting technologically advanced costumes, he infused Miles' original suit with a "cyberpunk" and "futuristic" style. According to PlayStation.Blog, the suit's details also feature decorative text reminiscent of Spider-Man's classic lines, something detail-oriented players will surely appreciate.

This artist, EKris Anka, actually designed the "Spider-Man 2099" Miguel O'Hara suit for the animated film "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" and shared his conceptual process on his Twitter.

In addition to Marvel Comics, he also created costume concept designs for "Superman" and his father "Jor-El" for the recently aired animated TV series "My Adventures With Superman" for DC Comics, publicly showcasing multiple concept images on his personal website.

"Miles" Biomechanical Suit / "Peter" Apunkalyptic Suit By Jerad Marantz

Whether it's Miles' "Biomechanical Suit," which combines biological and mechanical elements, or Peter's "Apunkalyptic Suit," with its post-apocalyptic future aesthetic, both incorporate technologically infused designs. For Jerad Marantz, who has consistently created countless monsters, creatures, and designs for video games and films, he skillfully emphasized this strong style in the material of both suits.

Naturally, Jerad Marantz, skilled in depicting monsters and designing distinctive costume concepts, has also contributed costume creative ideas for DC and Marvel films. These include DCEU's Batman, The Flash, Shazam, Cyborg, as well as Darkseid and Steppenwolf from "Zack Snyder's Justice League"; and MCU's Thanos, Kang the Conqueror, Black Panther, and more.

In the realm of video games, Jerad Marantz has also been involved in titles such as "The Callisto Protocol," "Gears of War 5," and "Infamous 2."

"Miles" Tokusatsu Suit By Julia Blattman

A suit featuring insect elements and a tokusatsu style immediately brings to mind Japan's tokusatsu series "Kamen Rider Series" (仮面ライダーシリーズ). Yes, as the name "Tokusatsu Suit" implies, this original Spider-Man suit draws its aesthetic from tokusatsu costumes, combined with a significant amount of Japanese live-action cinematic style.

Julia Blattman, who designed this suit, while not having participated in Marvel or DC films or comics like other designers, has worked at Paramount Pictures and in the "Consumer Products and Interactive Media" division of The Walt Disney Company, and also has experience working at DreamWorks Television Animation.

It's worth noting that Julia Blattman, also skilled in illustrating picture books, published her first picture book titled "The Mess That We Made" in 2020.

"Miles" Agimat Suit / "Peter" 25th Century Suit By Anthony Francisco

Miles' original "Agimat Suit," with its "purple and gold combination," and Peter's "25th Century Suit," composed of a fishbowl-like helmet and sharp light elements, both showcase Anthony Francisco's bold and striking style. The former highlights Miles' individual characteristics, while the latter adds ultra-modern design to enhance its futuristic feel.

Speaking of Anthony Francisco, his name might not be unfamiliar to many readers. As Marvel's Lead Character Designer, he not only created concept art for MCU films such as "Doctor Strange," "Ant-Man," and "Thor: Ragnarok," but the beloved "Baby Groot" is also his design.

It's worth noting that on May 25, 2019, Marvel's Lead Character Designer Anthony Francisco visited Taiwan to participate in the "Marvel Lead Character Designer Anthony Francisco's First Exhibition in Taiwan" behind-the-scenes film lecture, co-hosted by HCW International Lectures and Dynasty Art Gallery. He not only shared the MCU concept designs he worked on but also revealed behind-the-scenes production processes and secrets during the special lecture. We wonder if any readers of this article attended that lecture back then?

"Miles" Red Spectre Suit By Sweeney Boo

Featuring a strong black and red color scheme, not only is it Miles' iconic combination, but according to PlayStation.Blog, this original "Red Spectre" suit designed by Sweeney Boo further highlights the young hero's trendiness and youthful daring.

In addition to Miles' suit, Sweeney Boo has also frequently illustrated for Marvel Comics, DC Comics, and "Star Trek" comics, such as "Harley Quinn (2021-)" #28–31, "The Joker (2021-)" #5–7, #15, and "Captain Marvel: Game On (Trade Paperback)," all released in 2023.

"Peter" Aurantia Suit By Raf Grassetti

Speaking of Raf Grassetti, we believe his name will be familiar to many gamers, as he, invited to design this "Aurantia Suit" for "Spider-Man" Peter Parker, is also the Art Director for the renowned AAA title "God of War" and designed "Kratos."

It's worth noting that Raf Grassetti has also illustrated comic covers for Marvel Comics and DC Comics. For example, in 2020, he drew a variant cover for DC Comics' "BATMAN #100," and Marvel Comics' "Venom #1" in 2021 is also his work. Another interesting fact to share is that before the live-action film "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" was released, Raf Grassetti created unofficial realistic designs for the characters "Tails" and "Knuckles," which garnered significant attention.

"Peter" Tactical Suit By Bend Studio

More precisely, this "Tactical Suit" for Peter Parker was co-created by Joel Mandish and Darren Quach, both of whom are part of Sony Interactive Entertainment Bend Studio (SIE Bend Studio), a subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC (SIE).

Bend Studio is also the development team behind the survival horror adventure game "Days Gone," and Joel Mandish's shares on "ArtStation" feature numerous concept designs from that game.

Darren Quach, on the other hand, designed exclusive weapons and vehicles for Insomniac Games' other IP, "Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart." Quach's distinctive mecha style is clearly evident and has become a part of Peter Parker's suit elements for "Marvel's Spider-Man 2."

"Peter" Stone Monkey Suit By Victoria Ying

The "Stone Monkey Suit," which adds elements of Chinese legend to "Peter Parker's" costume, was conceived by Victoria Ying. She has collaborated multiple times with Marvel Comics and DC Comics, with notable works including DC Comics' children's graphic novel "Diana: Princess of the Amazons" and Marvel Comics' children's graphic novel "Shang-Chi and the Quest for Immortality."

In addition to video games and children's graphic novels, she has also participated in the production of several animated films, including "Tangled," "Wreck-It Ralph," and "Frozen."
