Japanese Netizen Dines at Komeda Coffee, Store Can't Give Change, Uses 'Those Beans' Instead – Praises: 'With the Beans, Everything's Fine!'

Komeda Coffee, which originated in Nagoya and also has branches in Taiwan, is a place many Toy-People readers have likely dined at. Whenever you order a drink, you receive a small packet of 'Komeda Mamegashi' (bean snack). This bean snack is practically Komeda's signature item, with many even buying it to take home as a treat.

Recently, a Japanese X (formerly Twitter) user shared their experience dining at Komeda Coffee. When paying with a 1000 JPY meal voucher, the store couldn't provide change. As both parties pondered a solution, the staff member brought out 40 packets of 'Komeda Mamegashi,' valued at 400 JPY in total. The user was very satisfied with this solution, taking home 40 packets of beans (and jokingly becoming a 'pigeon' with so many beans).

We've previously reported that when dining at Komeda Coffee in Japan, 'Komeda Mamegashi' can actually be reordered for just 10 JPY per packet. So, a 400 JPY difference being covered by 40 packets of beans seems perfectly reasonable, LOL.

Many netizens praised this. When they think of Komeda, they think of the beans; some initially even thought they were coffee beans. 'Ah, it's Komeda, so the beans make sense!' is what many thought. Some netizens also joked that it felt like exchanging prizes after playing Pachinko.

Since the user paid with a meal voucher, change couldn't be given. Many stores do indeed use similar methods to compensate customers for price differences with goods, but... 40 packets of beans is still quite amusing, LOL.

This method of substituting change with bean snacks seems to be fully accepted by Japanese netizens. Perhaps next time you have a chance to dine at Komeda Coffee in Japan, you might consider taking home some extra bean snacks to munch on, LOL.
