Shinichi Fukuda's hit cosplay manga, My Dress-Up Darling, has been absolutely soaring in popularity since its anime adaptation dropped early last year. Not only did the anime rake in rave reviews, but its merch flew off shelves, and the manga itself saw a massive boost in sales.
Now, get ready for more! It was announced today (August 30) that "My Dress-Up Darling" is getting a live-action Japanese drama adaptation, starring Riko Nagase and Kota Nomura! The series is set to premiere on MBS and TBS starting October 8.
"My Dress-Up Darling" first launched in SQUARE ENIX's "Young Gangan" magazine back in January 2018. It's since released 13 tankobon volumes (with Tong Li Publishing handling the Taiwanese release up to volume 12).
The story follows Wakana Gojo, a shy, introverted high schooler who dreams of becoming a Hina doll craftsman. His world collides with Marin Kitagawa, the super popular, outgoing gyaru who's obsessed with cosplay. Despite their completely opposite personalities, their shared passion for cosplay sparks an unexpected connection. What kind of chemistry will these two bring to the screen?
Riko Nagase, who plays Marin Kitagawa, shared her excitement: "When I first read the manga, Marin's captivating charm instantly drew me in. I never imagined I'd get to portray her in live-action! The production team has poured so much effort into the cosplay hairstyles, makeup, and costumes, and I really hope everyone enjoys this fantastic series."
Kota Nomura, cast as Wakana Gojo, added: "In the original story, Wakana is diligent and pure-hearted, always focused on doing his best. I want to give my all to portray this introverted character who still manages to capture Marin's attention."
