Manga artist Shinichi Fukuda's cosplay-themed series, My Dress-Up Darling, absolutely exploded in popularity after its anime adaptation hit screens in early 2022. Not only did the anime rake in rave reviews and massive merchandise sales, but it also sent manga sales skyrocketing.
Back in late August, the announcement of a live-action Japanese drama adaptation of My Dress-Up Darling, starring Nagase Riko and Nomura Kota, generated serious buzz. Fans were instantly curious if the live-action version could capture the magic. Today (September 18), the official cast beyond the two leads was finally unveiled, with the series set to premiere on MBS and TBS starting October 8.
My Dress-Up Darling follows Wakana Gojo, a shy high schooler who dreams of becoming a Hina doll craftsman, and Marin Kitagawa, the school's super-popular gyaru fashionista. These two seemingly opposite worlds collide through their shared love for cosplay, sparking an unexpected friendship. What kind of sparks will fly between these two wildly different personalities?
Beyond Nagase Riko as Marin Kitagawa and Nomura Kota as Wakana Gojo, the newly announced cast includes: Sajuna Inui (played by Ikeda Akana), Shinju Inui (played by Toyoshima Kokoro), Amano Chitose (played by Shiozaki Daichi), and Kaoru Gojo (played by Yamada Meikyo).
All four expressed their excitement about joining the live-action drama. Notably, Shiozaki Daichi, who takes on the challenge of portraying the cross-dressing cosplayer Amano Chitose, shared his dedication to delivering a stunning portrayal of a handsome man in women's cosplay, promising a unique performance.
