IO Interactive's "Project 007" Aims for Expansive Trilogy, Will Feature a "Younger Bond" for Players

Danish developer IO Interactive, long known for the "Hitman" video game series, first announced its "Project 007" adaptation for the "James Bond" franchise in November 2020, releasing an initial teaser. Since then, details have been scarce. However, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak recently offered new insights into the game's development direction and vision during an interview with gaming outlet IGN.

"This is not a game based on a movie; this is an entirely new, original story, and we hope to develop it into a major trilogy series in the future," Hakan Abrak explained. "Equally important and exciting is that this is a younger Bond character tailored specifically for players. It will not only incorporate the traditional characteristics of past Bond iterations, but players will also embody this character in the game and progress alongside his growth."

IO Interactive also noted that the scarcity of "James Bond" video game titles in recent years presents a significant advantage for the launch of "Project 007." Furthermore, Hakan Abrak cited Rare's 1997 film adaptation, "GoldenEye 007," as an example, expressing his hope that the upcoming game can leave as profound an impression on players.

"I don't want to overstate it, but I simply hope we can create a 'James Bond' title that establishes its own significant presence in the gaming landscape, expanding into a long-term, evolving universe that can coexist and develop alongside the cinematic iterations of Bond," Abrak stated.
