Classic Sci-Fi Horror "The Fly" Gets New Sequel 35 Years Later, Continuing David Cronenberg's Universe

Thirty-five years after the 1986 classic "The Fly" and its 1989 sequel "The Fly II," Deadline has exclusively reported that the iconic sci-fi horror franchise is set to continue with a brand new installment, expanding upon the universe crafted by director David Cronenberg.

The upcoming "The Fly 3" will be helmed by Nikyatu Jusu (pictured below), the acclaimed director of "Nanny," which won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival. Jusu will also write the script for the sequel, collaborating with 20th Century Studios and Chernin Entertainment to further develop the narrative established in the first two films.

"The Fly" franchise originated from George Langelaan's 1957 short story. The first film adaptation was released in 1958, starring Vincent Price. David Cronenberg later directed the critically acclaimed 1986 remake, which starred Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis.
