Modders Developing 16-Player Co-Op 'Spider-Verse' Mod for Marvel's Spider-Man

While it's debatable whether "Marvel's Spider-Man" ever needed a multiplayer mode, the appeal of a co-op experience where Peter Parker and Miles Morales can fight crime together is hard to deny.

Now, a group of modders is making it a reality by developing a multiplayer mod for the 2018 title. This project was born from the discovery of abandoned multiplayer code in the game's PC files, revealing that Insomniac Games had once planned, but ultimately scrapped, the feature. These creators are now attempting to resurrect it, developing a PvE cooperative mode that will offer PC players a brand new way to experience the game.

Just a few days ago, the modding team released their first trailer for the multiplayer mod on YouTube. The footage not only showcases Peter Parker and Miles Morales teaming up to take down criminals but also features other characters like Spider-Gwen, Silk, Spider-Man 2099, and even Spider-Men from the live-action films.

According to the team, the "Marvel's Spider-Man" multiplayer mod can support up to 16 players. Although they've stated that a PvP mode is not planned at this stage, the content shown in the trailer suggests that bringing a true "Spider-Verse" to life within the game is already within reach.

Of course, the mod will only be available to PC players, who can join a session through Steam friend invites or by entering the host's IP address. The modding team also announced their plans to port the mod to "Marvel's Spider-Man 2" after its PC release, which they are targeting for January 30, 2025, to continue the "Spider-Verse" adventure.
