The magical girl anime series "Pretty Cure," produced by Izumi Todo, is a long-standing Toei staple that continues to hold its ground. Following the 21st installment, "Wonderful Precure!," which premiered in February last year, the 22nd series, "You and I! Idol Precure♪" (tentative title), has also been announced.
But the real magic happened yesterday (January 11th) with the official premiere of "Maho Girls Precure!! ~MIRAI DAYS~," a sequel to "Maho Girls Precure!" This marks the first time a "Pretty Cure" series has aired in a late-night slot, and it immediately dominated X (formerly Twitter) trends, with "#MahoPri2" soaring to the top spot.

Originally the 13th installment in the "Pretty Cure" franchise, "Maho Girls Precure!" aired from February 2016 to January 2017. It told a captivating tale of miracles and magic, bridging the "Magic World" and the "Human World."
This new sequel is a fresh venture for the "Pretty Cure" series, specifically crafted for fans who grew up with the magical girls. Following the footsteps of "Power of Hope ~Precure Full Bloom~" (which aired in October 2023), this new series aims to deliver a story that resonates more with adult life, allowing long-time fans to continue experiencing the emotional impact of Pretty Cure.
The sequel picks up years after "Maho Girls Precure!," as Mirai Asahina and Riko Izayoi miraculously reunite. Mirai is now a university student in the Human World, while Riko has returned to the Magic World as a teacher at the magic school. Mofurun / Cure Mofurun remains by Mirai's side, and Ha-chan / Kotoha Hanami continues to watch over the entire world.
However, the Magic World and Human World once again face a new threat. Drawn together by omens of disaster, Mirai and Riko must confront their past and explore their future. With the familiar magical chant of "Cure Up Rapapa!," their brand new story is about to unfold!
The premiere episode not only retained the iconic transformation sequences and battle scenes but also flooded fans with nostalgic memories. Netizens raved, saying things like: "This is the 'adult transformation' I've been waiting for!", "The transformation scene is so much more mature, it's amazing!", "Cure Miracle and Cure Magical are finally back!", "Late-night anime with such high-quality animation, it's a masterpiece!", and "The classic, intense transformation scene just hits different!" The episode garnered widespread praise from fans.
