Last September, Deadline exclusively reported that Walt Disney Pictures was developing a new, teen-oriented film adaptation of "The Phantom of the Opera," tentatively titled "Phantom." Kenny Ortega, director of the original "High School Musical" trilogy, was tapped to helm the project, which is intended to be an exclusive series for Disney+. Recent buzz suggests that a familiar Disney face is now being considered for the lead role.

Insider outlet MyTimeToShineH recently reported that Disney is currently targeting Rachel Zegler, star of their upcoming live-action "Snow White," to portray Christine. Zegler boasts a robust musical theater background, having showcased her impressive vocal range in the 2021 "West Side Story" and "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes." With her "Snow White" film set to hit the big screen next March, it would be no surprise for Disney to continue their collaboration with the talented actress.
