Get ready, Franchouchou fans! The original anime series "Zombie Land Saga," a wild collaboration between MAPPA, avex pictures, and Cygames, is finally hitting the big screen. Set in Japan's Saga Prefecture, this "new-wave zombie idol anime" has already blessed us with two seasons, with a movie announcement back in 2021.
Today (January 31), the official word dropped: the "Zombie Land Saga" movie is officially slated for a 2025 release! They even teased us with a new promotional visual and a PV. We're still waiting for the exact date, but hey, it's happening!
"Zombie Land Saga" first burst onto the scene in October 2018, captivating fans with its unique blend of "zombies, idols, and Saga Prefecture." Its popularity quickly led to a second season in 2021.
The movie adaptation was first announced way back on October 17, 2021, alongside a PV titled "Zombie Naki Tatakai Saga Fukushuu-hen." After over three years of eager anticipation, we finally have a confirmed release window!
Nobuhiro Takenaka, producer at Cygames, shared his thoughts on the journey: "What truly defines an idol? What is Saga? Countless things have happened since we first announced the movie until today's release date reveal. In a world where just keeping up with changes feels like a full-time job, and it's hard to live in the moment, we've slowly but surely woven this film together."
He added, "It's been three years since the announcement, but my thoughts have always been with 'Franchouchou' (the idol group of seven zombie girls in the show) and Saga. We hope this movie can deliver the boundless dreams and hope from Saga to even more people."
Manabu Otsuka from MAPPA also chimed in, saying, "To all the amazing fans who support 'Zombie Land Saga,' thank you for your patience! The day has finally come to announce the theatrical release. The production team is constantly motivated by your voices, and we are incredibly grateful."
He continued, "This film is a labor of love, meticulously crafted by a team that deeply cherishes this series, built up through countless exchanges of ideas. I myself am moved and grateful every day by their passion, and I can't wait to share that enthusiasm with everyone. We'll keep working hard, and it would make us incredibly happy if you all enjoy this movie in theaters!"
